cote de nuits

The department of the Côte d'Or,in Burgundy, owes its name to its famous hillsides covered with vines that take on golden colours in autumn and extend from Dijon to Santenay via Nuits-Saint-Georges and Beaune. This Wine Coast is composed, from north to south, from the Côte de Nuits and then from the Côte de Beaune.

On the coast of Nuits, you can find the villages of Gevrey-Chambertin or Vosne-Romanée, for example. But their wines are not Côte-de-Nuits-Villages! They are Gevrey-Chambertin and Vosne-Romane. The AOC "Côte-de-Nuits-Villages" is given to wines produced on specific plots of certain villages, also close to Nuits-Saint-Georges but less known: Comblanchien, Corgoloin, Fixin, Brochon, Premeaux.

Most of the Grand Crus are found in côte de Nuits: the famous Clos Vougeot and the Château du Clos de Vougeot, but also the Chambertin (Mazis-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, etc...)
